FAN TETOCU EPISODE #1 - The Egregious Wackiness of Eliza Whizbang

Do you remember when The Epic Tales of Captain Underpants tried to discuss feminist issues? And how bad it was at it? Remember how the Vimpire episode tried to tackle female representation in media with all the subtlety, tact, and cleverness of a brick to the face? How George and Harold randomly became sexist for the purposes of the plot? Remember how the Barfilisk episode had Erica get mad at George for "boysplaining" in a moment that comes out of nowhere and has nothing to do with anything? Yeah... one of the show's many, MANY problems.

Luckily, I've been thinking of several ways to fix this show, and among this is several new episode ideas. So, I thought I'd take the opportunity to introduce one of these episodes here. This one is specifically a way for Captain Underpants to tackle feminist issues while actually fitting with the established characters and plot. And it's even an episode where Erica Wang, the show's favorite feminist, makes a major appearance!

The episode begins with George and Harold on the tour of the legendary Whizbang Novelty Company, top of the line in prank materials. But when they get to the part of their supposed "founder" Woodrow Whizbang, Erica heckles the tour guide about how he's not the "real" founder. The tour guide tries to remain civil until Erica brings up "Eliza", which gets her kicked out (as well as George and Harold when they ask who Eliza is).

Back in the treehouse, Erica relays the story of Eliza Whizbang, a pranking genius and the REAL founder of the Whizbang company, and how her envious brother Woodrow stole all the credit for her hard work. Tragically, he got away with it and everyone believed HE was the prank genius, because back then, nobody believed a woman could accomplish anything. Furious at this injustice, George and Harold steal Melvin's Time Toad (again) and go back in time to make sure Eliza gets the recognition she deserves. And Erica, wanting to see an influential woman get the recognition she rightfully deserves (and also sick of being the serious one all the time), tags along- and uses Melvin's crush on her to their advantage, with Melvin willing to let Erica and the boys use the Time Toad because she's Erica and Melvin has a crush on her.

When they go back in time, the trio find Eliza upset about her brother taking all the credit for her hard work. Erica gives her a pep talk, and George and Harold create a comic showing how her achievements have inspired them over the years- even showing off their own, even bigger pranks. But it all goes awry when Eliza's newfound desire to be recognized, inspired by Erica's words as well as George and Harold's pranks, results in her own pranks getting bigger and bigger, culminating in her going crazy and embarking on a prank rampage.

With Mr. Krupp still in the present, how can Captain Underpants save the day? Luckily, our heroes quickly come up with an answer. George still has his Hypno-Ring, and wandering the streets is a portly, crabby gentleman who looks kind of like Mr. Krupp. (Possibly an ancestor?) So, they hypnotize him into becoming Captain Underpants (and hypnotize away all his more... antequated notions in the process). And for the super powers, they obviously give him Super Power Juice to drink.

Wait, Super Power Juice? That's right, one of Eliza's latest creations turns out to be Super Power Juice- which she's sprayed herself with from a seltzer bottle, thus giving HER super powers! A climactic showdown ensues (in silent film-style Silent-O-Rama, because actions speak louder than words), and eventually Eliza is defeated and humbled back to normal. But even after the battle, our heroes have to admit, Eliza's pranks were the best of the best, which Eliza herself is grateful for. Unfortunately, because antequated notions still abound, Woodrow still ends up getting the credit for all of Eliza's creations- but Eliza is far from bitter, thanks to the knowledge that her work will be appreciated in the future.

When our heroes go back to the present, they embark on a boycott/protest of Whizbang Novelty Company, because they don't support companies who ignore the acknowledgements of women... or lie about their history. And this movement slowly but steadily gains a following as George, Harold, and Erica work to bring to light the legacy of Eliza Whizbang.

The feminist issue of choice in this episode is cryptogyny, or the Matilda effect as it's called when referred to scientific achievements- the hiding the achievements of women throughout history, a problem that has unfortunately persisted thoughout the ages (and hasn't even gotten a name until 2020). James Watson and Francis Crick took credit for Rosalind Franklin's discovery of the DNA double helix, Isaac K. Shero stole the idea for the modern day curling iron from Ada Harris, and there's evidence that the "author" of the Great Gatsby really plagarized the book from his wife Zelda. I felt that, if Captain Underpants had to tackle feminist subject matter, this would be the most in-character way to do it, with George and Harold discovering an important female prankster silenced by history and doing their best to make sure she's recognized for her awesomeness.

(Although I guess addressing the lack of "strong female characters" in media would make sense by using George and Harold's comics... if you ignore Sarah Hatoff from Dog Man... or Great Granny Girdle, from the Purple Potty People book... or The Amazing Cow Lady, mentioned as one of George and Harold's earliest superheroes in the VERY FIRST CAPTAIN UNDERPANTS BOOK...)

task 5: mickey's favorite room in the woodrow house

coming to the woodrow house was definitely a culture shock for little mickey. she's never seen a place so large and luxurious in her life, let alone live in it. while in school, she was drawn to the library, she loved that there were so many books right at her finger tips and loved to spend hours filling her head with their knowledge. she loved the game room and all the memories it held of game nights with richard and the others. she loved the movie theater, always amazed at how lucky she was to be able to walk down the hall and be able to watch any movie she wanted on the big screen.

but mickey's true favorite place in the house was the terrace. many nights growing up, mickey could always be found star gazing out there. she'd look up at the night sky with a little notebook filling with doodles and scribbles of the constellations she saw. for her fourteenth birthday, rachard bought her a fancy telescope. it was hard for her to accept such an expensive gift but her love of outer space won out over her humbleness. she would bring it out to the terrace on many nights and try to see how many stars and planets she could identify at different times of the year.

and during her more rebellious times as a teenager, mickey could also be found sneaking a few cigarettes out on the terrace when she thought richard and mrs. tristian weren't watching her.

Didn't expect to get invested in the event story but goddamn if it isn't one of the best stories arknights has put out so far and seeing Jessica finally find the one thing she wants to do and stand up for herself was absolutely cathartic, honestly right up there with Lone Trail for me even if the story felt too short

(also i know Woodrow wanted to kill Cliff for leaving him and their unnamed friend to die behind enemy lines during the revolutionary war but they definitely had something going on in the past right)

The EX stages didn't give me too much trouble except EX-5 but that was mostly just me being stubborn, i was surprised i managed to get EX-8 trimmed medal first try and then immediately got humbled by EX-8 CM, i tried it on my own for an hour or two before looking up a guide for it and turns out the solution was simply just spawncamp Cliff with Ceobe and Suzuran

Bit late to the party to talk about IS4 first impressions but definitely agree it's an improvement over IS3 and the foldartals and anti-interference index are fun mechanics, only managed to get to difficulty 7 rn but i'm slowly working my way to 10 for the trimmed medal

Don't have much else to say that hasn't been said better by other people so i'll just complain about how annoying the emergency version of "Where be No Mounts and Seas" is because holy shit it has been the most consistent run ender for me and also the Propagating Collapse paradigm effect on "March of the Dead" is literally an automatic loss because i swear the game is actually rigged to put the dominion on every ranged tile in that stage

Perfect? clears for the new SSS missions?

I'll be honest i didn't expect to fail the dps check on the ice cream truck boss but then i found out it only takes away 2 life points and i had no prior leaks so uh i guess i'll take it

I expected to get my ass beat on the lighthouse because i didn't raise any wandering medic and i refuse to borrow support eyjaberry but turns out the device provides enough elemental healing that i really only need to focus on bringing enough dps to get through the boss' shields

INTRO TO PANDORA.

subject matter : the silent four / the network . the foundation of pandora in the years before its creation .

the foundation of pandora has only existed for two decades . the organization itself has existed since world war I ( 1917 ) . the birth of espionage [ pigeon messages , a can of maps … mata hari , a dancer with high ranking admirer’s – – was hired by french intelligence to spy on the germans . ] operation nightwatch was planned by the united states government , forming a group of three men and a woman [ they are known as : ‘ the silent four . ’ ] nightwatch came from the mind of john j. pershing ( a decorated general of the u.s army ) , under woodrow wilson’s presidency . a sort of modest thing before the united states entered into the game of espionage .

gabriel kane , born in new york city in 1890 and the son of irish immigrants . during the first world war , he was the member of the 77th division , which saw extensive action in the meuse - argonne offensive . kane’s unit was tasked with attacking german fortifications along the front lines , and he quickly distinguished himself as a fearless and high skilled combatant . he was wounded multiple times in battle but continued to lead his fellow soldiers with bravery and determination . gabriel’s talents did not go unnoticed by his superiors , and he was eventually handpicked to join a special operations unit tasked with carrying out covert missions behind enemy lines . he excelled in this role , using his knowledge of the terrain and his ability to blend in with the local population to carry out a variety of missions , including sabotage and aviation , he enlisted in the army and intelligence gathering . it was during one of these missions that general john j. perishing first took notice of kane . after overseeing a assignment in which kane was sent on a dangerous reconnaissance mission , perishing was impressed by kane’s bravery and resourcefulness and subsequently recruited him into the silent four .

anthony price , born in philadelphia in 1890 from humble beginnings . he was heavily interested in civil rights movements , since both his parents were people of color . he also wrote poetry , often getting his poetry and articles published ( he talks about a lot of topics that are very personal to him , and sometimes becomes scrutinized for it . ) when world war 1 came about , he set off to join the army - in particular the harlem hellfire company in the 369th infantry regiment , a mostly all black company that initially were regulated to minor labor duties . eventually he and his fellow company men were sent to the front lines to fight along side the french army . price was a skilled linguist and fluent in french and german , which proved usful and he became a valuable asset to his company . during the battle of belleau wood , the harlem hellfire company saw extensive action , being tasked with capturing a heavily defended german position . anthony showed exceptional bravery and leadership , leading several successful assaults on enemy positions and earning respect of his fellow soldiers . to use his linguistic abilities to gather valuable intelligence on enemy movements and positions . he was eventually recruited by george creel , one of the six men who founded tsf .

damien knight , born in wichita kansas in 1891 , his parents owned a small airplane manufacturing business . because he grew up around airplanes and aviation , he enlisted in the army and underwent flight training , quickly proving himself a skilled and fearless pilot . one of his missions took place during the battle of saint - mihiel . knight was tasked with leading a squadron of planes on a bombing run against a key german supply depot . despite heavy anti - aircraft fire and enemy airplanes , knight and his squadron successfully carried out the mission , dealing a significant blow to german forces for the war effort . he was soon to be recruited by another member of tsf , who recognized his bravery , tactical skills , and the ability to think on his feet . he became an important member of the group , using her aviation expertise to carry out covert missions . his piloting skills were especially valuable in situations where the group needed a quick extraction or others in dangerous situations .

elizeabeth stone , elizabeth was boring in boston massachusetts in 1893 to a wealthy family of philanthropists . during the worked as a nurse , working on the front lines to care for wounded soldiers . she was stationed in several locations throughout europe , including france and italy , and gained a she developed a network of contacts among soldiers and civilians , and used her knowledge to help the allies plan reputation as one of the most dedicated and skilled nurses in her unit . she often went above and beyond her duties to provide comfort and care to soldiers , even under dan gerous condition or help was known to venture out into “ no man’s land ” to retrieve injured soldiers who were stranded or under fire , risking her own safety to ensure they were received medical attention . during her service , she also developed an interest in intelligence gathering , and began to secretly collect information about enemy troop movements and other military intelligence . she developed a network of contacts among soldiers and civilians , and used her knowledge to help the allies plan strategic operations . stone showed bravery and her intelligence gathering skills caught the attention of one of the founders of tsf , who then recruited her to work as a covert agent . as a member of the group , she used her medical knowledge and intelligence - gathering skills to carry out a range of missions , often going undercover as a nurse or aid worker to gather information or help resistance groups .

TIMELINE OF EVENTS ,

1918 - 1920 :

the silent few ( tsf ) extends to include more agents after the first world war ends . focusing on recruiting veterans of the war , giving them promise and purpose ( especially if they’ve felt lost and disconnected after the war . )

the organization becomes more structured , with specialized teams for intelligence gathering , field operations , and research and development etc .

it establishes its headquarters in washington d.c , and has offices across the united states and the world as a safe place for agents to go to while on a mission .

1921 - 1939 :

tsf continues to grow and adapt , now going by a different name , called the network . it continued to develop new technologies and tactics for espionage and covert operations .

the organization's reputation for effectiveness and discretion attracts the attention of influential government officials and wealthy benefactors .

agents are involved in a number of high - profile missions , including efforts to counter soviet espionage and sabotage during the interwar period .

1940 - 1945 :

with the outbreak of world war 2 , the silent few plays a critical role in gathering intelligence and conducting sabotage and espionage operations against the axis powers .

many agents served in the armed forces , using their specialized training to aid in military operations . while others fought alongside the military as a show of support .

during this time , the network continues to recruit and train new operatives , expanding its tanks to include specialists in a wide range of fields ( including cryptography , linguistics , and technology . )

1946 - 1960 :

in the aftermath of the war , the network shifted its focus to countering the emerging threat of communist regimes around the world .

the organization engages in covert operations to support anti - communist forces in countries such as korea , vietnam and cuba .

the network develops new technologies and techniques for surveillance and intelligence gathering , including the use of satellites and advanced encryption methods .

1961 - 1989 :

during the cold war , the organization plays a key role in working to gather intelligence and thwart soviet espionage efforts .

it becomes increasingly secretive and compartmentalized , with many agents operation in isolation from one another .

during this time , the agency develops advanced weapons and technologies for use in covert operations .

1990 - 1995 :

with the collapse of the soviet union and the end of the cold war , the network finds itself facing a new era of uncertainty and shifting geopolitical priorities .

the organization struggles to adapt to new threats such as terrorism and cyber warfare , and begins to face criticism for its secrecy and lack of accountability .

during a period of weakness , a man named conrad ashe would assassinate top network individuals and any agents who were loyal , take over the organization . effectively wiping it clean and starting over . thus pandora was born , in a new world with new possibilities .

The essence of leadership, whether at work or home, lies in understanding how to serve those we lead.

By embracing humble tasks, we enhance our leadership abilities and discover more about ourselves in the process.

Miki

The teacher in transition? The teacher in transition? Transition? To what? Doing what? Are the transactions good? Are they bad? Doesn’t everyone transition? Well, if you’re talking about the ultimate transition; I reluctantly acknowledge we all will transition into our mysterious next life …eventually. When changing one’s life from the sixty plus hour workweek to retirement; transition, to me, means living life fully on your terms to the degree possible. Like Augustus McRae of Lonesome Dove said, “by god Woodrow it ain’t dyin’ I’m talkin’ about …it’s livin’!” Choosing to live passionately and vibrantly and not waiting for death in a rocking chair. Augustus said it spot on …by god!

There is another unavoidable transition that we face and we painfully face it in ever growing instances the more we age: losing friends to that “undiscovered country” and we are never ready for that inescapable instance. Yesterday, I lost a friend in the quiet of her sleep …the mysterious transition. For those of us who loved her, it’s a heartbreaking removal of her from our lives. Miki Case Jost never retired, but her life was a devoted, dedicated, loving, ever changing, series of adventures in a life filled with the passion, vibrancy and heartwarming empathy. I won’t list the many challenges she carried out with exuberance and love … that would not do her legacy the justice it deserves. From radio disc jockey to teacher to mom to grand mom, her legacy was the kindness and support she gave coworkers, students, family and friends. Without question, Miki helped me become the teacher and person I became. I taught for 30 years, I spent 23 years at Lufkin ISD. I really connected with just a few of my colleagues as I was not your “typical” teacher. That served me well at times, not so well at other times. I only made a handful of real friends. Victor L Travis was one and Miki Case Jost was another. Her passing was totally unexpected.

Miki “got” me and was a true friend. I taught her two sons, we hung out and she helped me establish a powerhouse Destination Imagination program. Time went by and our lives went by and our connection dwindled. There was no disagreements at all…just life taking place. My great, great friend Scott Walters called me today to let me know that she wasn’t with us anymore. I was gobsmacked and my heart hurt. I was filled with regret that I didn’t share with her how special she was more often. This is a lesson I can’t quite learn completely; but like most of us, we swear we’ll do better. I can’t waste any more chances to share my heart with people who’ve made an impact on my life.

She moved around the state and country serving young people in school and those serving in the prison system always striving to make difference in the lives she touched. Bravo Miki …you did, more than you can possibly know. It seemed an exhausting, exciting path of new challenges and loving people. Yet, she usually humbly only referred to adventures as hitting the road with her two doggies. I submit that retirement should be a time for loving and spending time with your family and a respectable amount of focusing on the dreams and goals for yourself. C’mon…times a wastin’ seek excitement. Miki did, but she never stopped loving and serving. She was only four years older than me yet, she seemed to have lived, truly lived a lifetime that twice the life I have lived. She is …yes, is amazing. We had planned writing and illustrating a children’s book together but we never made real progress with the book. Do I regret that? Certainly, but the deepest regret is that I’ll not be ever have any opportunity to share time, share a drink …a hug and acknowledgment of the special lady she was. I’m confident the book would’ve been excellent, but my friendship with her was far more impactful than producing something…even a book about a friendly, talking tree.

I and countless others could go on and on about the unique character of this woman. She wouldn’t have wanted that. She wasn’t about accolades but connections, powerful connections. In that respect she possessed a wealth few of us do. Miki Case Jost …you are my friend… I love you and will miss you forever. Requiescant in pace, mi amice.

Between Lines is a Poetic Thoughtful Animated Short by Sarah Beth Morgan

Between Lines is an animated short film created entirely by an all-women team, directed by the talented Sarah Beth Morgan. The story is about the scars created by bullying in high school and lifelong recovery of these memories. Puberty, growing up, and the discovery of self are traumatic enough to process. However when school dynamics and bullies added to the equation, teenage years might become a burden. Maybe because we saw many coming of age stories in feature films focusing on the troubles of growing up, adjusting to problems, dealing with uncertainties. There is no denying that bullying creates deep scar on people and they spend so much time on themselves to recover past traumas. The narrative in Between Lines follows a young woman's journey as she navigates isolation, exclusion and anxiety. Out of the trauma, blooms a sense of healing and connection. There is no single definitive way to make your peace with your past but either way the happiness and relief comes within.

Sarah Beth Morgan, a director and illustrator currently based in Cleveland, OH, United States, grew up in Saudi Arabia. She attended the Savannah College of Art and Design and had early career experiences at Scholar and Oddfellows in LA and Portland. Currently, Morgan works from her own studio in Cleveland. And as a personal impression, Morgan's work feels sincere, down-to-earth and approachable to manies. Her animations and illustrations are neat, humble and taking you to a polished, clean environment that could trigger a positive emotions instantly.

Between Lines: "I wanna subway map of my invisible scars."

Between lines successfully completed its festival stint by getting recognition and awards from many organizations; including Brooklyn Film Festival – Audience Award for Animation, Pictoplasma Berlin – Official Selection, SCAD Savannah Film Festival – Official Selection for Global Shorts Forum. HISTORY - OF INTERNATIONAL - MOTHER DAY

Introduction: Every year, the second Sunday in May is celebrated as Mother's Day, a special occasion dedicated to honoring and appreciating the remarkable women who have given us life and shaped our existence. But have you ever wondered about the origins of this global celebration? Join us as we embark on a journey through time to explore the intriguing history of International Mother's Day.

The Roots of Mother's Day: The concept of honoring mothers has ancient roots, dating back to the ancient Greeks and Romans who celebrated festivals dedicated to mother goddesses. These festivities paid homage to maternal figures such as Rhea, Cybele, and Hilaria.

Early Christian Influences: During the early Christian era, a holiday known as "Mothering Sunday" emerged in Europe. It was traditionally observed on the fourth Sunday of Lent and offered an opportunity for people to return to their mother church and spend time with their families. This is one of my favorite verses from the Bible. It goes along with all the sayings about the company we keep. Woodrow Wilson said “your enlightenment depends on the company you keep.” The people you surround yourself with will determine who you are in life.

My days as a Husker are a great example. I was part of the program when it was at its peak. Tom Osborne era, National Championships, 9-win seasons. I remember being a walk-on and having the opportunity to be a part of summer workouts with the team right after graduation.

I showed up for the first workout and was blown away. The energy on that team was phenomenal . The leadership within the players was crazy. Grant Wistrom, Jason Peters, Jared Tomich and Chad Kelsay were the main drivers. Iron monsters pushing the rest of us to work harder and be better. They were the iron sharpening iron that led to Osborne’s 3rd national championship.

If you truly want to have continued growth in your life, you have to find the iron to sharpen yourself. You have to find the people that are not going to make it easier for you, but add friction so that you do become razor sharp.

I don’t want to be the smartest in the room, but I want to ask the most questions. I don’t want to be the strongest guy in the gym, I want to set my sights on the next bigger guy to push myself to that level.

I love my job at Talent Plus because it is stacked with smart, intelligent and wise people who have a drive to share their knowledge and make other businesses and people better. I’m challenged every day. I’m humbled every day and I love it.

For the last two or three years, I’ve been a part of a small group of men (3 of us now) who are working on our faith. We read bible plans on the Bible app and leave comments about what we read. We meet once a month or so and talk about it. We are sharpening each other’s faith as well as how to be better, stronger men.

Iron sharpens iron only when there is friction. Real friends are there to tell you the truth even when it's painful and uncomfortable. If you want to be the best you can be…find the people that will push you, but when you do, remember to be their iron as well.

The book of Proverbs is a self-help book in itself filled with guiding tips on how to be a better person, be successful and live a much happier life. Whether you are religious, spiritual or about self improvement…I recommend reading it.
